Dating Community App
Designing a modern dating experience beyond swipes and matches

— Avego was built to challenge traditional dating platforms by combining AI-driven conversations, community features, and offline dating experiences. The goal was to move beyond swipe-based interactions and create a more engaging, guided, and human-centered dating ecosystem. I worked on the product design for both the website and mobile app, focusing on shaping a fresh experience rather than borrowing heavily from existing competitors.

Project Overview
To design a differentiated dating platform that encourages meaningful interactions through AI assistance, community engagement, and offline connections.
Avego was designed as a dating and community platform that blends AI-powered conversations, interactive features, and offline experiences to create a more intentional way of connecting.
Unlike traditional dating apps such as Tinder, Bumble, and Hinge, Avego aimed to introduce new interaction models rather than optimize existing ones. The platform focused on reducing conversation anxiety, improving engagement, and fostering a sense of belonging through AI Wingmen, community spaces, events, and interactive chat experiences. Instead of relying heavily on competitor patterns, the design process emphasized original ideation, experimentation, and brainstorming. This approach helped shape a distinct product identity that aligned with Avego’s vision of building a dating community rather than just a matching app.
Approach

Design Approach & Ideation
The approach focused on original problem-solving and experimentation, prioritizing new interaction models over familiar dating app patterns.
The process began with understanding the emotional and social challenges users face while dating, especially during first conversations. Based on this, AI Wingman characters were conceptualized and designed to help users break the ice, guide conversations, and reduce hesitation. Each Wingman was given a distinct personality, allowing users to choose the experience that best matched their communication style. In-chat experiences were further enhanced by designing interactive games within the chat interface, encouraging playful and natural engagement. Alongside the app, the website experience was designed to clearly communicate the platform’s vision, features, and community-driven approach. Continuous brainstorming, iteration, and feedback helped refine the experience while keeping it aligned with Avego’s long-term goals.
Process
The process was driven by original ideation, rapid experimentation, and close collaboration, with minimal reliance on existing dating app patterns.
The process began with understanding the emotional friction users face in dating, especially during first interactions and conversation initiation. Instead of heavily referencing competitors, the focus was on brainstorming new interaction models that could make dating feel more guided and less intimidating. Design explorations were translated into user flows and interaction concepts for both the app and website, with continuous iteration based on internal feedback. Close collaboration with the product and development teams ensured that ideas such as AI Wingmen, in-chat games, community spaces, and events were feasible, intuitive, and aligned with the product vision.



The design philosophy centered on making dating feel supportive, playful, and community-driven rather than transactional. Each feature was designed to reduce anxiety, encourage authentic interaction, and move users beyond passive swiping toward meaningful connections.
Final Design
The final design delivered a distinctive dating experience that combined AI assistance, interactive chat elements, and community-driven features across web and mobile platforms.
The final product included a mobile app and website designed around AI Wingmen, interactive chat-based games, community features, and event-driven connections. Users could select an AI Wingman to assist with conversations, play in-chat games to break the ice, and engage with the platform beyond traditional swipe mechanics. The experience balanced innovation with usability, ensuring that new features felt approachable rather than overwhelming. The design established a strong foundation for future growth while maintaining a clear, differentiated identity in a competitive dating market.
